Data sources and attribution
Every value in a report has a badge saying where it came from: an official source (for example DVSA), our own calculation from sourced inputs, an AI estimate, or SAMPLE data. If we don't have a source for something, we say so instead of guessing.
| What | Source | Updated |
|---|---|---|
| MOT history | DVSA MOT History API | Live lookups once access is approved; SAMPLE data until then |
| Vehicle details and tax | DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service | When access is available |
| Model MOT statistics | DVSA anonymised MOT tests and results | Yearly |
| Recalls | DVSA vehicle recalls since 1992 | Weekly |
| Fuel prices | DESNZ weekly road fuel prices | Weekly |
| Vehicle tax rates | GOV.UK vehicle tax rate tables | When rates change |
| MOT fee | GOV.UK MOT test fees | When fees change |

What we don't have yet
- Valuations, insurance groups and repair costs: these need licensed data, so those parts of the report say "not available".
- Insurance quotes: we won't show prices until we can give you real quotes.
